Samet has been helping his community for past decade. He was the founding president of the Australian Turkish University Students Association and is the current president of the Australian Turkish Institute. Previously he also helped for various charity projects which included blood donation and humanitarian aid campaigns. Samet also reaches out with a weekly spot on ethnic community radio station 3ZZZ to his community.
Samet said that he has done a lot of projects with people from different faiths, bringing them out so they could know each other, learn from each other, communicate with each other and overcome stereotypes.
The award was presented by Hume Mayor Adem Atmaca on Australia Day.
Mr Atmaca said that Samet’s award was proof that the Turkish community was fully integrated into Australian society.
