You can now learn Turkish at Sydney University with Turkish courses and classes for absolute beginners and beyond. The courses are starting in October 2011.

Turkish is spoken by over 100 million people world-wide. Apart from being the official language in Turkey, Cyprus, Macedonia, Kosovo and Iraq, Turkish is incredibly useful in many other Eastern European, Central Asian and Middle Eastern countries. Because of its geographical location, the Turkish culture represents a fusion of Eastern and Western cultures as well as having a sophisticated mix of ancient and contemporary traditions. The program will progressively advance your verbal and written skills by exploring these cultural elements.

There are many Turkish language Newspapers published in Sydney, most prominent of them being Zaman, Dunya, Yeni Vatan, Turkish News Weekly which would give you an idea about the diversity and the richness of Turkish speaking culture in Sydney.
