Title race in Turkish Super Lig getting intense
Many of the champions in the major European leagues for the 2017-18 campaign were decided months ago.
Last year’s champions from English Premier Leage, Spanish La Liga, French Ligue 1 and German Bundesliga will wear their respective crowns again, with Serie A remaining as the only one of Europe’s top five leagues as yet undecided.
With just ten matches remaining, there are four Istanbul teams still in the hunt for the Turkish Super Lig title.
Galatasaray are currently ahead of Istanbul Basaksehir on goal difference, with both on 50 points.
With 47 on the board, last season’s champions Besiktas are in third, with Fenerbahce three further back in fourth place.
Istanbul clubs clinched the crown 33 times in the past 34 years. Bursaspor and Trabzonspor were the only clubs outside Istanbul who managed to claim the glory in the entire history of the Turkish soccer league.
They are all ripping points off each other this season, which makes it so difficult to predict who will finish the campaign on top.
Basaksehir losing 4-1 to Alanyaspor Friday evening certainly gives the other Istanbul giants a greater advantage however games next weekend will be pivotal as Fenerbahce host Galatasaray on Saturday and Basaksehir welcome Besiktas on Sunday.
