Besiktas started the preparations for the next soccer season with 3 impressive signings; Guti from Real Madrid; Quaresma from Inter and Berndt Schuster the ex- Real Madrid coach.
Besiktas management has been renown for wasting money on expensive flops. Having signed an unknown Croatian Gordon Schinfield for 3 million euros and the German Thomas Fink for another 2 million euros in the previous season alongside the 10 foreign players they already had in their squad; the black eagles management had lost their faith of their fans. But this time they are investing in world class quality. Guti has played for Real Madrid for 14 years; 27 year old Quaresma has played for Barcelona; Chelsea and Inter previously.
Both Quaresma and Guti were welcome with thousands of fans. About 21;000 fans turned up to Quaresma’s signing ceremony; which is followed by 20;000 for Guti. In the middle of Turkish summer; these are quite high numbers.
Meanwhile Besiktas’ rivals Fenerbahce and Galatasaray have kept quiet in the transfer market. Fenerbahce sacked the previous manager Daum; appointed their Director of Football Aykut Kocaman as the new coach; signed ex-Galatasaray player winger Caner Erkin and young midfielder Stoch from Chelsea. The Fener are hugely disappointed with losing the title to minnows Bursaspor on the last game and their growing hatred towards record-transfer Spanish International Guiza can not be stopped as Guiza hasn’t tried to prove himself on and off the field.
