Soccer fans in Turkey are surely enjoying the 2015 summer transfer season. From the 3 Istanbul giants to Anatolian minnows, Turkish clubs have delighted fans with big name signings.
Fenerbahce had shocked their fans by releasing 5 star players including team captain Emre Belozoglu, defender Bekir Irtegun, Egemen Korkmaz, midfielder Selcuk Sahin and promising goalkeeper Mert Gunok. It is reported that Mehmet Topuz and Volkan Demirel are the next players to depart the club.
To replace the released players, Fenerbahce signed defender Abdoulaye Ba and goalkeeper Fabiano Ribeiro from Portguese powerhouse Porto. Following the Porto duo, the yellow canaries signed the Brazilian midfielder Josef de Souza for 8 million Euros. Fenerbahce also signed defender Simon Kjaer from Lille.
After releasing five and signing four new players, Fenerbahce delighted fans by signing Mancher United winger Nani. The Portuguese international has spent 5 illustrious years with Manchester United but spent the previous year at Sporting on loan.
But signing Nani was not enough; Fenerbahce snapped up star striker Robin van Persie for a fee of £4.7m.
Recently promoted to Superlig, the capital city of beach tourism shocked the Turkish fans by signing Samuel Eto’o. Eto’o has an impressive career having played previously for Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter and Chelsea.
Antalyaspor second signing of the summer is Ronaldinho. Like his new team mate Eto’o, Ronaldinho has a stellar career having played for PSG, Barcelona and Milan.
Following Eto’o and Ronaldinho, Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes is on the verge of joining Antalyaspor.
Antalyaspor club chief Guntekin Gencer yesterday revealed that they were on the verge of signing the ex-Barcelona goalkeeper.
Ronaldinho, Eto’o and Victor Valdes were team mates at Barcelona where they won the Champions League in 2006.
The Superlig champions offloaded forwards Aydin Yilmaz and Goran Pandev. Midfielders Felipe Melo and Blerim Dzmaili are expected to leave the club for Serie A teams soon.
Galatasaray started the transfer season low key by signing 32 year old Akhisarspor midfielder Bilal Kisa. Known for his long distance shots, great passing and vision, the 32 year old is expected to be a backup for Selcuk Inan.
However by signing German International Lucas Podolski from Arsenal, Gala managed to cheer up their fans. The talented forward has been capped 125 times for Germany and has played for Bayern Munich and Arsenal previously.
Besiktas impressed Turkish fans last year with their hardworking and talented team and their attractive style of play. Coach Bilic became a somewhat of an icon due to his passion and transformation of Besiktas despite not winning any trophies.
Besiktas’ first transfer was legendary Turkish coach Senol Gunes. Gunes coached Turkish national team that played semi-final and won 3rd place in 2002 World Cup.
After failing to clinch the title, the club parted ways with coach Slaven Bilic. Following Bilic, the prolific striker Demba Ba was sold to a Chinese club Shenshua, promising defender Atinc Nukan was sold to Leipzig. Tomas Sivok, Ibrahim Toraman and Daniel Opare also left the club.
Besiktas so far signed Andreas Beck and Dusko Tosic. Chelsea striker Loic Remy is reported to sign for Besiktas on loan.
