Turkey breaking the stereotypes; an Armenian-Turk, Acemoglu, is the new Ambassador in France

An ethnic Armenian, Daron Acemoglu, was appointed as the new Turkish Ambassador to France. Daron Acemoglu, Turkish ambassador to ParisDaron Acemoglu is a Turkish economist of Armenian origin. He is currently the Charles P. Kindleberger Professor of Applied Economics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and winner of the 2005 John Bates Clark Medal. The economist was twice nominated for the Nobel Prize.

Acemoglu's appointment to the office is considered as a strong message from Turkey to France who has been using 1915 Eastern Tragedy in Turkey as a political blackmail weapon against Turkey in various international platforms for France's own political interests.

On March 3, Turkish State Council adopted decision allowing a Turkish citizen of Armenian origin Leo Suren Halepli to work for Turkey's secretariat general for EU affairs.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that Turkey views Armenia as "a potential friend". In one of his recent statements, Deputy Prime Minister Minister of State Ali Babacan said that Turkey's appointment of non-ethnic Turks display the confidence of the Turkish state on its own people regarding of their ethnic backgrounds.
